  • Home Stretch is another program delivered by Better Futures that supports young people to remain living with their carer/s after 18 or to move to other housing, like private rental. This support is available up until 21 years of age.
  • Better Futures also delivers Community Connections. The Community Connector program is committed to young people to achieve their unique goals, reduce isolation and support the development of meaningful and sustainable community relations.

How does it work?

Better Futures is a way of supporting care leavers. It engages with young people and their support networks, to work collaboratively to increase a young person’s independence and achieve their goals as young adults. The practice model is guided by a Better Futures (Advantaged Thinking) practice framework. Support is tailored to meet the individual needs of young people, and designed to improve outcomes for young people both in-care and post-care to supported independence, up to the age of 21.

Working in collaboration with the Victorian Government, The Your Journey team aims to engage earlier with care leavers, supporting them to have an active voice in their transition planning, and providing individualised supports.

Better Futures includes:

  • Case work support
  • Information and advice
  • Access to flexible funding

“Better Futures is exactly what the name describes! It’s a support system for vulnerable and disadvantaged adolescents and young adults! I’ve been a client with Better Futures for a few years now and they have helped me grow so much. They have given me resources and taught me skills I unfortunately was never taught growing up. They have been able to link me in with really helpful supports which has bettered my life currently and will have a positive impact in the future.”
