School Holiday Programs
During the school holidays most local councils run holiday programs. Activities include games, craft, pantomimes etc. Some of these programs will cater for children with disabilities provided they have the extra assistance they require. It is very important to talk to the co-ordinator about the support needs of a child with disabilities well before the program commences. A clear understanding should be reached about “who is providing what” in the way of support.

Specific Programs

Able Respite Services
Able Respite provides support to people aged 6-64 who rely on the daily support of another person. This can be provided within the person’s home, in a community based setting or at our Respite holiday house.

A Bright Idea
An Acquired Brain Injury social support group which meets on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) for social get togethers. The group aims to provide an opportunity for its members to share information with each other, develop new friendships and to become involved in new activities. The program includes monthly meetings, monthly outings and four weekends away to various locations each year. The group is open to individuals with an ABI between the ages of 18-64 years who live in the Mornington Peninsula area. Meeting time is 1pm-3pm.

Access For All Abilities Cardinia
This program aims to promote, encourage and support recreation and leisure opportunities within the Shire of Cardinia. AAA works with community groups and private providers to offer programs and competitions which cater for people with disabilities. Current programs include‘No Boundaries’ cricket, yachting and social activities.

Alpha Outbound
Alpha Outbound provides fortnightly recreational activities on either a Saturday or Sunday (inc. evening outings) and weekends away. Members receive a calendar of events from which to choose activities they wish to participate in. Activities are undertaken in small groups of approximately 6. The staffing ratio will be no more than 1:3 participants for each activity. A member’s contribution towards costs will vary according to the activity being undertaken. Costs for each activity will be stated on the Calendar of Events sent to members and/or their
families/carers. Dependent on activity, transport may be provided either to pick up and/or drop off at the member’s home.

Alpha Social Club & Alpha Girls Group
The Alpha Social Club has activities on the 3rd Monday of the month from approximately 4pm-6pm and some weekend day trips have been included recently. Alpha provides administrative support only, therefore, there are no
staff members present at the activities. Membership is free and upon completion of a membership form. A newsletter is sent out on an approx. quarterly basis which also includes a calendar of upcoming activities. Members pay for the cost of the activity and are responsible for getting to and from the activity.

Alpha Girls Social Club runs similarly to the Alpha Social Club. Alpha provides administrative support only and does not offer staff support on the activities themselves. Each participant is responsible for their own transport and costs.The group meets on the 1st Saturday of each month. Information is provided in the Alpha Social Club Newsletter.

Adults with Autism or similar needs.

Aquability

Aquability runs escorted shore dives regularly and snorkelling activities every Saturday from our full retail outlet in Mentone from October through to the end of April for people with a disability.
These activities are supervised by qualified professional diving instructors with experience in helping people with a disability enjoy our Victorian coastline

Brotherhood Community Nexus
Eligibility:
Adults with a disability and their Carers
Brotherhood Community Nexus provides services for people with a disability in the Southern Region. Brotherhood Community Nexus offers two services for people with disabilities and their families.
The Community Life Options service advocates for people with a disability supporting them to fulfil their dreams and aspirations. This can include working on their behalf in building inclusive communities, helping people to take part in the activities they enjoy and assisting them to become valued members of their community. The Respite and Life Options service helps older carers who primarily care for an adult relative with a disability by facilitating community opportunities, interesting activities, and help with planning for the person’s future.

Camp MDA
Camp MDA is a week long respite program, conducted in each of the school holidays. Participation is open to children and adults affected by muscular dystrophy or related neuromuscular disorder.  
Camp MDA provide an informal opportunity to meet and interact with peers, undertake activities within the realm of their abilities and have fun as part of an away from home adventure. Activities are planned and resourced to reflect the needs, wants and abilities of the participants, thus catering for both young and more mature participants.

City Of Casey Enhancing Vacation Care Program

This program provides a service working in partnership with local school holiday program providers, to enable the activities to be more accessible to young people aged from 6-18 years who have mild to moderate disabilities. The service funds providers of school holiday programs so that they can employ extra staff to cater for children and teenagers with disabilities, also helping parents and carers to enrol their children into programs. The program is available to the residents of the City
of Casey.

Juniors Camp:
Respite camps/holidays offered one weekend each month and during holidays. This program uses community houses and activities, offering varied fun and social opportunities. Staff are experienced and qualified in disability care.

Fitness Fever
Fitness Fever provides professional fitness training for people with an intellectual disability. The program
combines weights strength work, including power walking, light weights, exercise to music, and boxacise. Private and group sessions can be arranged at the studio, schools and in-home.

Flying High Tours

‘Focus’ Art Program - Great Break Initiatives
This program uses a person centred philosophy, challenging and encouraging independence. It is individually designed to allow each person to participate and provides positive experiences to enhance development. Staff are trained and experienced in painting - drawing - mask making - photography - sculpture and computer/design. It builds on peoples strengths in a creative and relaxed learning atmosphere. Classes are held between 10am-3pm every Saturday in Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula. The cost is $6.00 a session and is limited to 8
participants.

Eligibility:
People need to be over 18 years old, have an intellectual, physical or sensory disability and be living at home with
family/carer.

‘Focus’ Holiday Support Program
Our aim is to give people with a disability the opportunity to have a holiday with their family on the Mornington Peninsula. Support is available within their holiday destination at our rental ‘cottage’ in Dromana. ‘Focus’ staff can relieve family members for periods of time during the day if required, to enhance the holiday experience. If your family would benefit from 20 hours a week of support, while they enjoy a holiday, please contact the Outreach Co-ordinator. The program is available to people aged between 5 and 65 years who have an intellectual,
physical or sensory disability and are living at home with family/carer.

‘Focus’ Weekend Camps
In partnership with the YMCA, camps are held every 3 months. Through these camps, we seek to give participants a fun filled and exciting weekend away by providing stimulating activities within a safe environment. The camps commence on Friday evening and conclude on Sunday afternoon. Personal support is provided by ‘Focus’ staff and YMCA volunteers. People need to be over 18 years, have an intellectual, physical or sensory disability and living at home with family/carer.

Get Out!
A visual and performing arts project held at the Frankston Uniting Church which provides opportunities to learn
and develop arts skills. The program operates every second Saturday, 10am to 4pm Transport is available.
The program is available to people with disabilities (excluding psychiatric disability) in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. (Not available to clients resident in a CRU).

Great Break Weekend Holidays
Weekend holidays for teenagers (12-18 years) and adults (18+) with high physical support and medical support needs. Weekends are planned in consultation with carers and the person with a disability. The program is targeted at groups of four clients with staff support for personal care. The program services the whole Southern Metropolitan Region.

IMPACT - Support Services
The Community Support Services offer two programs that encompass support within the community. The Southern & Northern Access program supports and offers respite for carers of adults who suffer from a neurological disorder. The Individualised Funding program focuses on enhancing lifestyles and skills on a 1:1 basis in areas of choice related to enhancing independent living for adults who have an intellectual disability.

Interchange Southern Recreation Program
The Interchange Southern Recreation Program is provided by MOIRA Disability & Youth Services. The program includes a range of group activities aimed to encourage children and young people with disabilities to have fun, make new friends, gain confidence and independence within a supportive environment, while giving families a well deserved break.
The recreation program includes school holiday activities, weekend camps, recreation groups, and a movie club. All activities are run by experienced staff, camp leaders and volunteers.

The School Holiday Activities  are offered to children and young people, aged 3 - 18 years, who are currently registered with Interchange Southern, and on the waiting list for a place in a Recreation Group and/or Host volunteer match (See Interchange under the Alternative Family Care section.) The activities are varied and include trips to the zoo, trampolining, and Puffing Billy

Camps
Camps are offered to children and young people aged 5 - 18 years, who are currently registered with Interchange Southern, and on the waiting list for a place in a Recreation Group and/or Host volunteer match (See Interchange under the Alternative Family Care section.)   
There are a number of camps available throughout the year, and are usually held over a weekend, are age specific, and cater for varying abilities.

Recreation Groups
The Recreation Groups are social groups for children and young people aged 5 - 18 years, with varying abilities. Group members meet on a fortnightly or monthly basis either on a Saturday or Sunday, in a variety of community based and centre based settings.

Movie Club
The Movie Club caters for a small group of adolescents with low support needs. The club meets once a month on a Sunday at a local cinema.

Sibling Support Program (SIBS)
The Sibling Support Program offers support to children and young people who have a brother or sister with a disability or chronic condition. Siblings with a disability (including AD(H)D and Aspergers) are not eligible.
A group of up to fifteen siblings participate in a weekend camp (called camp S.P.L.A.T. Siblings Playing Listening and Talking) that involves workshop sessions, free time together, organised games and groups activities.
Following the camp, participants reunite for a Follow Up Day session which incorporates a workshop session and a fun excursion.

OzChild Youth Group Program
Eligibility:
Young people aged 13-18 years with a disability living in municipalities as listed below.
General Description:
Social group for young people aged 13-18 years with a disability who reside in the municipalities of Casey, Cardinia, Dandenong, Frankston or Mornington Peninsula. Groups generally meet on a fortnightly basis on a Friday evening or Saturday and involve a range of recreational and leisure activities. Participants must be registered with OzChild.

Jewish Care Victoria Recreation Programs
Jewish Care currently offers four groups for Jewish people with a disability. The aim of these groups is to provide an opportunity for people with a disability to develop friendships while trialling a range of recreational activities (eg. bowling, picnics, movies, art & crafts).

The groups currently meet either fortnightly or monthly and are as follows:
• Time Out; teenagers 13-17 years with low support needs
• Social Animals; Young adults 18-25 years with low support needs
• B’Yachad; Adults 25+ years with low support needs
• Masada; Adults 25+ years with high support needs

Jewish Care also offers a group for siblings (‘My Time’) for children aged 8-12 years with a brother or sister with a disability.

Joint Councils Access For All Abilities (JCAAA)
Joint Councils Access for All Abilities (JCAAA) is an innovative community development service shared by the Cities of Bayside and Port Phillip and is auspiced by the City of Port Phillip.JCAAA works with the community to facilitate the development of sustainable sport, recreation and arts opportunities for people with disabilities. JCAAA promotes partnerships between a range of community-based sport, recreation and arts providers, and services within the disability health, education, government and community sectors.JCAAA is funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria under the Access for All Abilities Program and the Department of Human Services Southern Metropolitan Region.

This program enables children and teenagers aged 5 to 18 years with mild disabilities, the opportunity to participate in mainstream school holiday programs, as well as giving respite to parents and carers. The program assists mainstream vacation care providers with support and training so that they can include young people with disabilities into their programs.

Sporting Opportunities

JCAAA works with a wide range of sports clubs on various initiatives, to help create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sports in their local area. JCAAA aims to make mainstream sport accessible to people with disabilities after hours and on weekends. Sports include football, tennis, lawn bowls, basketball, netball, athletics, cricket and swimming.

Leisure Action
Leisure Action is a service of Scope, working with people with disabilities, local government, community recreation and sporting providers and other specialist services to enhance participation in community life. The primary goal is to create leisure opportunities which meet the needs of adults with physical and multiple disabilities throughout Victoria. However, people with other disabilities can generally access the opportunity created.

Peninsula Access Support and Training provides services and support to people with disabilities in activities of everyday life. P.A.S.T operates 7 days per week over 52 weeks of the year between the hours of 6am and 11pm. Other times are negotiable. P.A.S.T is available to people over 18 years old.

Peninsula School Holiday Program
This program provides a range of group activities during school holidays which stimulate and are enjoyable for participants. The activities will utilise community/ regional facilities. The program is available to children 6-18 years with an intellectual disability who have an unpaid carer and live in the Mornington Peninsula Shire or the City of Frankston.

Recreation Access Project

This project provides and supports a wide variety of leisure and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities within the municipality of Casey. a straightforward, fun, inexpensive way in a supportive environment. Established Sailability Centres are located at Albert Park, Docklands, Mornington, Lilydale, Latrobe Valley, Ballarat, Geelong, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Sale, Christmas Hills, Paynesville, Blairgowrie and Stawell. Sailability Victoria also provides its Mobile Unit for pilot programs and ‘Come & Try’ days where an existing Sailability Centre is not nearby.

Social Connections – Your Respite Options
Social Connections – Respite provides a broad range of respite services and activities in either a group based setting or on an individual basis. The program currently provides weekend holiday getaways, social group outings & individualised respite support.
Respite provides for the municipalities of Greater Dandenong, Casey, Kingston, Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.
All weekend activities are for up to 9 adults including those with higher support or complex medical needs.

Special Olympics
A weekend sporting program for children (from 6 years of age for training) and adults with an intellectual disability.
It provides year round training and competition in a variety of well coached sporting activities of their choice,
irrespective of the degree of skill they can achieve. Sports include swimming, basketball, athletics, softball, tennis and ten pin bowling, bocce, and introducing golf and cricket.

Statewide Autistic Services
Recreation Officer organises regular weekend and school holiday excursions for children and teenagers with an Autism Spectrum Disorder living in the Southern Metropolitan Region. Stepping Out
The group encourages independence and socialisation through a range of activities in an informal group setting for residents within the municipality of Frankston.

Eligibility:
Adults with intellectual disabilities aged between 18-45 years. All participants need to meet HACC guidelines and are assessed before commencing the program.

Swim 4 All
Private half hour classes for people with special needs are run by qualified Austswim teachers.and are guided by the swimmer's specific needs. Each session is followed by a half hour practice/play session, supervised by the swimmer's parent or carer. Swimmers are assessed on an on-going basis, and can have the option to join a group session. Classes are held in a 4 lane heated 18 metre pool used exclusively for lessons, eliminating any distractions or noise from public use. Parents and carers are welcome (but not required) to be in the water with the swimmers if it benefits their learning.

Tennis For People With Disabilities
Tennis Victoria, through its Tennis for People with Disabilities program provides sporting and recreational opportunities for people with sensory, physical and intellectual disabilities. The program facilitates people to play at the level of their choice - in mainstream tennis club competition, alongside able bodied competitors, and with players of similar ability.

Wesley Community Services co-ordinates the ABI Shared Supported Holiday Program. These holidays have been designed for people with an ABI. Yooralla - Recreation
Supports children, adolescents, and adults to access local recreation services and to participate in recreation activities/holidays.Service priority will be given to carers/consumers who do not currently access Yooralla’s Recreation service, and/or who lack appropriate support structures, are socially and/or geographically isolated, are supporting people with high and complex support needs, are ageing carers, or are experiencing cultural barriers.

Camps and holiday programs will also be provided to children and youth aged 6-18 years with a disability and high medical support needs, who reside with a primary carer within the southern region.
