Specific Home Care
All Local Councils in the Southern Metropolitan Region provide Specific Home Care for people caring for people with a physical, intellectual or neurological disability, or sensory impairment. The service caters for people of all ages. Specifically trained staff will provide personal care and general assistance to the person with a disability
in their own home during weekdays, evenings or weekends to enable the carer to have a break, even if it is only for a few hours. Some services will also provide overnight care in the person’s own home. The hours of service which are available vary between Councils, as does the cost. Carers should discuss their special needs where assistance required is beyond basic care tasks.

Royal District Nursing Service
The Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) is the largest and oldest provider of home nursing and healthcare services in Australia. Grounded in the principles of care and compassion, RDNS is a not-for-profit organisation, delivering 24 hour a day professional nursing care to people throughout Greater Melbourne in their homes, schools and workplaces. The majority of care provided by RDNS is to HACC clients, although RDNS' services are available to anyone within the community. The only eligibility requirement for care is that a person has a nursing or healthcare need that is able to be met by the services RDNS has to offer. RDNS delivers care from 20 centres throughout Greater Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.
To find out more about RDNS' services, simply call 1300 33 44 55. This number operates 24 hours-a-day, 7 days a week.
Further information is available on the RDNS website - W: www.rdns.com.au
In-Home/Attendant Care Services
All Home and Community Care funded services (e.g. Specific Home Care, RDNS etc.) and in-home care services have the aim of supporting people continuing to live in their own homes. In-home and attendant care services will provide regular or occasional care for people with disabilities. Trained staff will care for the person according to their guardian’s directions. Assistance may include personal care, domestic assistance as well as support in maintaining social and recreational interests, and accessing community facilities. All attempts are made to meet needs. Costs vary according to the organisation and their level of subsidy.
