What is the Parent Support program?
The Parent Support program's aim is to help strengthen the family unit by empowering and supporting parents. This is done by encouraging and providing access to support groups, information sharing, parenting programs, the co-ordination of forums on a range of topics pertinent to the needs of families who have a child with a disability, a monthly newsletter, carers camps and more.

The Parent Support Co-ordinator acts as a central contact point where parents can obtain information regarding any of the above services and activities. The program is aimed at families with children between the ages of 0-18 years.

What is our main objective?
The program's main objective is to respond to the needs of parents and their families who reside throughout the Southern Region. The program can be accessed either by self referral, or via any of the disability support services throughout this region.

What does the Parent Support program provide?

parent to parent
Do you have a child with a disability?

Would you like to talk to someone who has a genuine understanding of your situation and needs?

Are you looking for support and comfort from other parents in a similar situation?

What is the Parent to Parent Program?
The Parent to Parent program strives to offer the vital support that only a parent with a child who has a disability can give to another parent who also has a child with a disability.

The program aims to minimise the isolation, both emotional and geographical, felt by many new parents of a child with a disability, through the provision of experienced and empathetic support.

Parent to Parent Southern has a pool of trained volunteer parents of children with disabilities, who act as support for other parents in a similar situation, who may feel the need for this sort of assistance.

Having been matched with a parent who is seeking support, the volunteer is able to assist through the sharing of common experience and the provision of emotional support. This support may come either in the form of a phone call or meeting with another parent.

As well as training and supporting the volunteer parents, the Parent to Parent Co-ordinator acts as a central contact point for referrals and information.
