What is MOIRACare?
MOIRACare is a one-to-one support service for people who have a disability. The type of assistance offered is largely determined by individual requests. Common requests for assistance may include the following:
- Personal Care (eg. mealtime assistance, bathing, dressing, hygiene)
- Getting around inside the home, or outdoors
- Accessing public transport
- Attending social events or appointments
- Participating in recreational activities
- Keeping safe when family members go out
- Maintaining independence
- Overcoming social isolation
Who uses MOIRACare?
People with a disability living in the Southern Metropolitan Region can purchase assistance from MOIRACare. There is no age limit. The MOIRACare support staff team have a wealth of experience. Some individual staff are trained and specialised in certain areas of need, including:
- High level physical support, requiring the use
of hoists
- Autism
- Medical needs
Service Providers may also purchase assistance from MOIRACare. Currently MOIRACare provides staff to:
- Councils
- Disability support agencies
- Mainstream recreation, camp and
vacation programs
- Schools
When is support available?
MOIRACare staff are available to provide assistance at anytime during the day, 7 days a week, including overnight. Most service is booked in advance, however assistance may also be available during emergencies.
How much does it cost?
MOIRACare charges an hourly rate between 7am and 10pm daily. There is a fixed charge for overnight staff when no active assistance is needed before 7am. Generally, MOIRACare rates for assistance during the week are in line with the Department of Human Services ‘Unit Cost’. Additional charges apply for weekend shifts, so as to maintain quality staff.
Is there funding available?
Many of our customers purchase services using funding from other sources. Individuals may also purchase services privately. MOIRACare assists many individuals who have funding from the following sources:
- Department of Human Services
- Commonwealth Carer Respite Services
- HACC (Home and Community Care)
- Hospitals (Post Acute Care)
- TAC (Transport Accident Commission)
Why MOIRACare?
MOIRACare was formed in direct response to an increasing demand for staff to resource a number of MOIRA programs. Its creation was due to feedback from families and people with disabilities who wanted more flexibility in their support; and that remains the driving force of the program today. The MOIRACare rostering staff offer a personalised response to individual requests and they have a breadth of experience working in partnership with people with disabilities, families and other service providers.

New applicants must provide a resume; be an Australian resident; have a current driver’s licence, and be willing to undergo a Police Check and a Working with Children Check upon application. Flexible hours and salary packaging are available. Regular training is provided to staff, and some new applicants may be eligible for traineeships in Certificate IV Disability.
