Physio & Occupational Therapy
What is MOIRA’s Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Service?
The Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist are highly skilled clinicians assisting families and residential staff to support persons with a disability in the home and in the community.
The service is available for those with a disability from birth to 64 years of age.
The Occupational Therapist role was expanded early in 2005 in order to manage the greater need for therapy assessments for equipment identified in individualised service plans such as Support and Choice and Home First. This is often on top of the existing clients’ needs identified by the brokerage case managers and accommodation staff. At times this is a balancing act as with any role the more someone is actually in the office the more work they get thrown their way!
The OT works closely with the brokerage families and helping them to arrive at an outcome that will enable them to care for their child more easily at home. It is particularly satisfying to support a family through the arduous process of modifying their home or bathroom. It is a long journey often taking 9-12 months but it is worth the wait when the work is completed and those daily tasks of showering and dressing are made a little easier.
