What is MOIRA’s Family
Counselling Service?

The Family Counselling Service provides families with the opportunity to jointly address shared concerns. Counselling can assist family members harness strengths and existing resources. It can help identify the communication and behaviour patterns which may have contributed to problems arising. Families and/or individuals may meet with the counsellor to work together towards understanding and change.

What type of issues can the Family Counselling Service assist with?

The Family Therapists work with issues relating to:
  • Loss and grief
     
  • Chronic illness and disability
     
  • Stress on relationships, including parenting
     
  • Separation and divorce
     
  • Young people and children’s emotional and behavioural responses
     
  • Trauma and abuse
     
  • The challenges of day to day living

How does the Family Counselling Service Operate?

MOIRA employs two qualified family therapists who have expertise and experience in disability and working with young people. Referrals may be made by individuals or agencies. The number of sessions would be negotiated with the counsellor. Fees on application.
