MOIRACare Worker

What is MOIRACare?

MOIRACare is a one-to-one support service for people who have a disability. The type of assistance offered is largely determined by individual requests. Common requests for assistance may include the following:

  • Personal Care (eg. mealtime assistance, bathing, dressing, hygiene)
  • Getting around inside the home, or outdoors
  • Accessing public transport
  • Attending social events or appointments
  • Participating in recreational activities
  • Keeping safe when family members go out
  • Maintaining independence

MOIRACare’s core business is sending workers out to people's homes to provide assistance, but in addition the program provides casual staff to other MOIRA programs including the Interchange Recreation Program (group activities for children and teenagers); and Supported Accommodation (residential support for adults with a disability living together in the one house). Please see the Services page for more information about these programs.
Most of our service delivery occurs in areas local to our office in Moorabbin, covering the following Councils:
  • Bayside
  • Glen Eira
  • Kingston
  • Port Philip
  • Stonnington

Some assistance provided includes transport: either accompanying an individual on public transport or driving them to appointments, activities, or home.

MOIRACare assists people of any age and with a wide range of disabilities. Some service users may have profound physical disability and no intellectual disability (enabling them to directly instruct the assistance they require); some service users may have no physical disability but profound intellectual disability. Some service users have additional sensory disability affecting communication, living skills, or social interaction (such as Autism, or hearing impairment). Some service users have additional medical or mental health needs. MOIRACare has a strong commitment to working flexibly with people who have complex needs, and who experience difficulty accessing other services. Our staff culture and work ethic supports MOIRA's Commitment Statement (please see our "about us" page).
