School Holiday Activities

MOIRA delivers a range of School Holiday Activities throughout the year for children between the ages of 5 - 17 years old.

Recreation activities are geared to meet individual support needs and offer a variety of choices. Programs run across various locations within the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.

Eligible families may apply for the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate when accessing the Mill Street Vacation Care program.

Camps

MOIRA offer a variety of camps throughout the year for children and young people with a disability between the ages of 7 - 17 years.

Camps are generally held during some school holidays or weekends, and are structured to be age specific. The camps are designed to ensure a quality recreation experience whilst providing respite for families and carers.

Who is eligible?

Children and young people with a disability aged 7-17 years living in Southern Metropolitan region of Melbourne.

What are the costs?

Camp fees are fully subsided by MOIRA and include transport, accommodation and meals.

Who runs the Program?

The Recreation Program is run by experienced and qualified staff, camp leaders and at times with the added assistance of volunteers. Volunteers are carefully recruited and provided with training to assist MOIRA staff to provide children and young people with a positive experience.

Weekend Recreation Activities

Recreation activities are geared to meet individual support needs and offer a variety of choices.

Programs run across various locations within the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.

Volunteers

MOIRA provides a range of volunteering opportunities for people who are over the age of 18 that would like to be involved with children and young people who have a disability within the community. We will match your skills and experience with the areas of interest to you.

Volunteering will allow you to enrich your personal development, gain new skills and provide experiences that can enhance future career opportunities. You will also meet like minded people while having fun.

MOIRA provides services to families in the Southern Metropolitan region of Melbourne, including the cities of Bayside, Kingston, Glen Eira, Stonnington and Port Phillip.

Who Can Volunteer?

Volunteers are people who can commit to volunteering their time on a regular basis for one or more MOIRA programs. Volunteers can be families, couples or single people with or without children of their own who over the age of 18. No formal qualifications are necessary, however an interest in working with children with disabilities is an advantage. Satisfactory completion of the screening process, including a current Working with Children Check, and willingness to undergo a Police Check and reference check is required.

Volunteer Programs

Volunteers assist paid staff to support children and young people across a variety of Community Support programs including;

  • Vacation Care and School Holiday programs
  • Weekend recreation activities
  • Camps
  • Sibling Support programs
  • Host program

Training and Support

Volunteers will be offered ongoing training and information as well as appropriate levels of support.Additional opportunities for development, skills sharing and networking are also a feature of the volunteer program at MOIRA. Before commencing, volunteers will receive information on:

  • Consumer rights and responsibilities
  • Volunteer roles, rights and responsibilities
  • Nature of volunteer commitment required
  • Effective communication skills
  • Support available for volunteers

Community Support

The Community Support program provides a diverse range of support services for families caring for a child with a disability and living at home within the Inner Southern region of Melbourne.

The programs aim to provide innovative respite options for families and give young people opportunities to make new friends, develop self confidence and to have fun with the support of qualified staff. A range of recreation programs including camps, weekend activities, and school holiday programs are offered throughout the yearfor children between 5-17 years.

MOIRA is committed to providing high quality programs to provide children with opportunities to maximise their potential, and experience positive social interactions. The programs are designed and delivered by specialist staff to cater for the needs, interest and abilities of all children.

Community Support Programs:

Volunteers

MOIRA provides a range of volunteering opportunities for people over the age of 18 that would like to be involved with children and your people who have a disability.

Interchange Host

The Host program pairs a child or young person with a disability between 0–18 years of age and living at home in the southern metropolitan region of Melbourne with a volunteer host.

Camps
MOIRA offer a variety of camps throughout the year for children and young people with a disability between the ages of 7 - 17 years.

School Holiday Activities
MOIRA delivers a range of School Holiday Activities in addition to the Mill St Vacation Care Program throughout the year for children between the ages of 5 - 17 years old.

Sibling Support
The MOIRA Sibling Support Program provides a supportive and safe environment where siblings can normalise their feelings. A therapeutic framework allows children to not only explore their emotions, but also enhances self-esteem, encourages peer support and reduces the sense of isolation often associated with having a sibling with a disability.

Parent Support

Occupational Therapy to assist the greater need for therapy assessments and equipment supplies for individuals with a disability. 

Family Counseling

The aim of the Parent Support Program is to help strengthen the family unit by empowering and supporting parents. This is done by encouraging and providing access to various forms of support.
